A few years ago, I heard about the suicide of Kelief Browder who spent almost three years at Rikers Island in New York. I was broken hearted at the travesty of justice, but also felt like things will never change, so I considered giving up on humanity. But really that’s no way to live. The world needs our love and if we give up, the only ones left are the users and predators.
I’ll ask you to watch this YouTube Video before reading the rest of my current post Blog where I spend a bit of time covering the comments made at the end of the video by a man who ran Rikers for many years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv6gSl4JcFA
There are so many layers to Bernie's Bullshit. Bernie Kerik is deeply deluded or brainwashed to believe it is courageous for that DOC guard to beat Kaliff (Kalief) for running his face. Bernie positing that DOC staff should be incarcerated for breaking the laws, but then not passing laws that evolve to protect prisoners is a tragic joke.
Laughably, he even said 2 months in segregation would drive someone insane and why? Because he did a whopping 60-days in seg, as if that makes him an expert on the psychological damage that isolation, notably long-term isolation induces upon prisoners?
Kalief did almost three years for having the integrity not to plead guilty for stealing a backpack, despite the fact that the games prosecutors play (nationwide) is designed to place people (well, poor people) under extreme duress, so they plead guilty.
Kelief chose to die rather than go through that hell again, and chances are good that every prosecutor in NYC sleeps soundly at night with their fat paychecks and suburban houses to insulate their sense entitlement.
I think it was commendable that some DOC staff dared to try to protect Kalief when he was being swarmed by violent morons in Rikers. But for Bernie to dismiss concerned citizens as naysayers or 'critics that talk all that junk' when complaining about Rikers is a pathetic and cowardly excuse not to feel and be held accountable for a broken justice system. When hearts go cold, we're screwed.
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
