We had a good run at the Minnesota State Capitol. Several lawmakers stepped up and spoke as to the importance of second chances for people that have been impacted by well meaning by injurious laws. We moved to have legislators give low-level offenders a Clean Slate after fulfilling their real obligations to society, but not to include making securing housing and employment an impossibility upon release. Also, allowing taxpayers a right to vote is being sought. Many offenders can’t vote until they are off paper (off supervised release or probation).
It was nice seeing some friends I rarely see these days, and I enjoyed talking with my Legislator, House Rep. Samantha Sencer-Mura, and felt I was heard. I offered my willingness to speak at hearings if she wanted me to.
Since I support the Blue, I was hesitant to mention I am in support of higher police accountability. I’m a Libertarian and abhor passing laws for everything, but law enforcement needs controls. Freedom is more than just nothing left to lose, I hope.
